Not enough iconography for Michael Scott

The other day I came home and turned on the television to see that The Office was on. I watch this show all the time so it was an episode I had seen many times before. It was the one where the accountant Oscar is revealed to be gay. His being gay comes about because Michael, the boss, had been making comments on how "faggy" things were. He had been confronted by the head of human resources, Toby, who had said this comment has been offending people. Michael doesn't believe this because he says noone in the office is gay because he'd be able to tell if they were. To convince Michael of the seriousness Toby tells Michael one of the employees, Oscar, is in fact a homosexual and hopes for his descression. Michael seems to not think it was possible because the "signs" wern't as obvious as they should be. Michael is talking about the same signs as Dyer is talking about in his article. Since Oscar is gay he should be flamboyent, express his love for fashion/shopping, have more feminine mannerisms and so on. This sort of baffles Michael as he talks to his partner in crime, Dwight. They even go as far to talking about getting a gaydar to detect whether a person is gay or not since they are not making it obvious. Michael and Dwight think it is unfair that a person who is gay/lesbian can live without showing these "signs" of homosexuality because the rest of the world should know, hence the invention of the gaydar. To me, this seems a bit extreme but the fact of the matter is there are probably people in the world who feel the same way as Michael.
