I came across an article on Dr. Pepper’s new 10 calorie drink. It is the same as Dr. Pepper, it is just 10 calories and targeted towards men, literally. In the ad it makes it clear that this is NOT a woman’s drink, they even had the nerve to have a slogan that says “it’s NOT for woman”. There facebook page for the drink even excludes women from joining the group. Along with the commercial only being aired during college football games, where men are the dominating viewers. Women are being alienated from a SOFT DRINK. They might as well not allow stores to sell it to women. Being health conscious will ruin a macho self-image. This drink will be a MAN’s healthy alternative. They seem to be emphasizing the image of women not being able to “handle” a drink with 10 calories. It could be because the way women constantly are portrayed as being concerned about their weight. Body-image is one of the top priorities in our society. Mainly making women want to constantly look for get skinny quick schemes, and diets like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and Nutrisystem. Why is there a need for a soft drink to be so macho? Diet soft drinks have become more popular; therefore, does that mean we have to have specific targets for a simple diet beverage? The man in the commercial says “you can keep your romantic comedies and lady drinks. We’re good.” What is considered a “lady drink”? Are men being judged on what they end up drinking? This also can make women look overly sensitive and weak, which clearly not all women are.
These are the thoughts and musings of a group of critical media studies students from DePaul University. Some of us are new to the field but we are all scholars who critically consider the world around us, and are ready to contribute to the body of knowledge on how media interacts with and helps shape our cultural world.

I think that it's not meant to be sexist and make women seem sensitive and weak. I think that its trying to find an alternative for men who are made to feel sensitive or weak by their peers for drinking diet drinks. And that by making such blantant comments like "It's NOT for a woman" and “you can keep your romantic comedies and lady drinks. We’re good.” they're making fun of machoism.
