Gingers Unite!

Tonight I decided to watch Glee. During the episode they featured a couple, the glee club teacher (male) and a school counselor (female). Her parents came over for dinner and they were “ginger supremacists”. All I could do was laugh. Did they really just say that? It was really ridiculous how they portrayed themselves and expressed, “in 30 years we will be extinct. It’s a recessive gene.” The “gingers” came off as extremely racist. They only associated with other red heads for everything! They would not even order food at a restaurant from someone who was not a red head. They said they felt like the only way they could be themselves, was around other red heads. There was some type of inner-fear to interact with other people that were "different". In the end it resulted in the explanation for the school counselor’s OCD. For my friend (she’s a “ginger”) she thought it was funny and felt prideful because red heads are not the norm. To her it brought that you/I relation of audience-oriented T.V. She knew they were over-exaggerating, but she was cheering “YAAAA GINGERS”, “I should wear my ginger shirt”, "all my friends are tweet-ing me right now", and she ignored how racist they were making 'them' look. It was funny and interesting on how she reacted because of the relationship connection she had with the television show. All she cared about was representing her fellow red heads. She had a Price is Right moment and join union with the T.V.

  1. I think the show was just making fun of people being treated different cus they are different and how some people will only associate with those who are like them.
