Last week I was watching a marathon of the SCREAM movies and I noticed that the fourth installment was way more in-your-face killing than the original three. It got me thinking about how now that a new decade has come there are also new rules that have to be applied to our culture. In the movie the characters made up new rules as to how now virgins can die, and anything that can't happen will happen. What about today’s society? What are the new rules for our teens/youth? Before it was weird, like we discussed in a previous class, to have tattoos and piercings, and not everyone has one and it is becoming socially acceptable for most people to have these things.
Society is always changing and a lot of companies and people have to catch up. I know that SCRE4M really tried it’s best to keep itself alive. Those characters that we all love are back and with some known teen actors. The movie takes you back to Woodsboro, 10 years after the 3rd SCREAM, where new killings are taking place and the heroine Sydney must stop GHOSTFACE from killing off the teens one by one. This movie is awesome because it takes you back to those times when this plot was in every horror movie and you would enjoy seeing the heroine run for her life and stop the killer in the chase scenes. I really think this movie did great because nowadays horror movies are not what they used to be. Times are changing and with new reboots and remakes, movies have changed the images that we used to associate with. [I mean, they changed Freddy Krueger for sakes!] When I was watching it in theaters, I smiled because I knew that these are the movies that I know and love. For those that have seen it,I hope you guys agree with me when I say that SCREAM kept it real I hope that they stop making more, because I don’t think that Sydney can take any more.
I'd like to see this examine sexism in horror movies since it's so disgustingly rampant.
